Offline access

Install it once. Then teach without a signal

This site can be saved to your phone like an app. After that, the pages you have already opened will open again with no connection at all, which is usually the situation in the classroom.

What gets saved to your device

  • The home page and the full resource list, from your first visit.
  • Every resource page and article you open, kept for the next time.
  • The design and the text of the site, so pages appear immediately rather than loading.
  • Any PDF you download, which is stored on your phone like any other file.

Nothing is sent anywhere when you install. The saved copy sits on your own device and updates itself quietly whenever you next open the site with a connection.

Installing it, device by device

The wording differs slightly between phones and between versions, so look for something close to what is written here rather than an exact match.

Android phone, using Chrome

  1. Open this site in Chrome.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right of the browser.
  3. Choose Add to Home screen, or Install app if you see it.
  4. Confirm the name and tap Install. A TEAMS icon appears with your other apps.

Chrome may offer to install the site by itself. If a bar appears at the bottom of the screen offering it, that is the same thing and it is quicker.

iPhone or iPad, using Safari

  1. Open this site in Safari. It has to be Safari, not Chrome, on these devices.
  2. Tap the share button at the bottom of the screen, the square with an arrow leaving it.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add at the top right.

Apple devices do not show an install button on the page itself, so the share menu is the only route. The result is the same.

A computer, using Chrome or Edge

  1. Open this site in the browser.
  2. Look for the small install icon at the right of the address bar.
  3. Click it and choose Install.
  4. If there is no icon, open the browser menu and look for Install or Apps.

Useful on a shared school computer, because the site then opens in its own window without the browser around it.

If it does not work

There is no install option in my browser menu
Some browsers do not offer it at all, and some only offer it after you have visited the site more than once. On an iPhone the option is in the share menu rather than the browser menu. If you still cannot find it, the site works normally in the browser and will still save the pages you open.
A page will not open when I am offline
Only pages you have already opened are saved. If you have not visited that resource while connected, there is nothing stored to show you. Open it once with a signal and it will be there afterwards.
I want to be certain I have it in the classroom
Download the PDF as well. A downloaded file sits in your phone storage and does not depend on the browser having kept anything. It is also the version to send to the photocopier.
